Primary, Secondary and Advanced Leaders Awards for STEM, offered by Primary and Secondary Engineer can contribute towards the SLQ and can be a great way for students to collect additional recognition of their STEM activity whilst working towards the BTEC qualification. This FREE award is open to students between the ages of 5 and 19 years. Its aims are twofold:
- to encourage students to act as leaders for STEM activities in schools and colleges – helping others and extending the breadth of activities available, and
- to give students careers awareness opportunities by asking them to interview STEM professionals.
The Award fits neatly with the SLQ providing opportunities to fulfil learning hours within the units ‘Learning with colleagues and other learners’, ‘Learning from more experienced people’ and also ‘Developing personal skills for leadership’. Of course aspects of other units, such as ‘Working in a Team’ can also benefit from Primary Engineer activities. Additional STEM project links that students can run can be found on the Leaders Award website as well as information about Special Awards offered by organisations such as The Royal Aeronautical Society, Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE), etc. To find out more about this Award, which can be done within the Qualification units of work visit http://www.leadersaward.com or download the document below.
